The 16 GB capacity could disappear from the specifications of the next generation of iPhone. So they say from IHS after completion of an investigation through the Cupertino company supply chain.
According to analysts of IHS, Apple could have been decided in the end to remove the version of 16 GB on their upcoming iPhone 7 and set the 32 GB as input capacity.

The 16 GB could disappear from Apple smartphones with the iPhone 7
At the moment there is no official confirmation of this and surely we do not have it until the official devices presentation, although it is true that the analysis firm that makes the prediction has a pretty good history of hits.
Apple began using the 16 GB capacity with the iPhone 3G, the first model which marketed globally. At that time it was one more than acceptable ability, but it has currently been short for the vast majority of users. Taking into account that the current models have ability to record video 4K, that photographs take up increasingly more space and that the use of smartphones is increasingly intense, it is normal that 16 GB of storage capacity are insufficient in most cases.

Of course there may be users that this capacity is sufficient. Do not use the cameras of their devices or users who use their computers for little more than make calls, send emails, or use office apps. Even so, the price of storage chips are already economic enough as so that Apple can make the leap to a higher capacity without transfer to the customer a price rise.
On other features, analysts of IHS ensures that iPhone 7 will continue setting up 2 GB of RAM, just like the current iPhone 6s. This collides with the information published by Ming-Chi kuo, who said that 7 Plus iPhone would take 3 GB of RAM to operate correctly the double rear camera system. Either way, the information that interests us in this occasion is the alleged disappearance of the model with 16 GB capacity.
Where this information is finally confirmed remains to be seen what is the option chosen by Apple. It will launch four different versions and you will have a catalogue with 32, 64, 128 and 256 GB? Will we see only three versions with 32, 64 and 128 GB? Perhaps a step will continue to jump and see 32, 128, and 256 GB? For now it seems that we will have to wait to have this data, but certainly are glad to know that the possibility of increasing capacity in the most basic version of iPhone 7 are valued.
