Apple has hired a doctor who specializes in the treatment of children with diabetes. Rajiv Kumar, who created an application of monitoring HealthKit was enabled for young patients with diabetes, is now working at the Lucile Packard Children Hospital in Stanford University part time.
Kumar was news to its pilot application for HealthKit, which uses the framework of Apple to help patients to keep an eye on the facts of his illness, as their blood sugar levels, and then share it with health professionals.
Kumar was able to control the bi-monthly patient reports to check the tendencies, which helped to reduce the amount of data that needs to be on-site control of their patients, for example, if a patient had consistently low or a high of sugar in the blood during the night.
Christopher Dawes, Chief Executive Officer of Lucile Packard, told Fast Company that the hospital cannot compete with companies such as Apple, Google and Facebook, when in reality they want to participate with these companies. Apple has yet to confirm the hiring.
The Cupertino company has recruited other medical professionals in recent years, in which hope to expand its reach in health care, a dream that was inspired by Steve Jobs.
Other employees include Divya Nag, a former businessman in biotechnology, and Mike O’Reilly, an anesthesiologist who now runs the ResearchKit platform. It is not clear whether Kumar will continue working with HealthKit or contribute to another service within the company.
