Apple today made a presentation to the Commission of competition and the consumer of Australia (ACCC), arguing that it the request of three big banks Australian to bargain collectively on the use of Apple Pay is ultimately harmful to consumers, because it would harm innovation in mobile payments and avoid the competitive dynamic for consumer use.
The Cupertino company argues that each of the three major banks (Commonwealth Bank, National Australia Bank (NAB) and Westpac) have resisted serious commitment to Apple regarding Apple Pay during the past two years.
Apple says that they have tried, without success, negotiate with all banks, with the exception of one of the banks that are refusing to sign a confidentiality agreement that would allow Apple to send its initial terms to customers. Apple says that the negotiation collective would slow down negotiations later with other entities.
This means that each of the banks has no fear of competitors to offer Apple Pay. Therefore, the banks not fear a loss potential of the consumers about the entity. This harms to those consumers, avoiding the dynamic competitive, according to Apple.
The measure also would harm innovation in mobile payments, eliminating incentives for Australia-based players to compete with Apple Pay. However, a spokesman for the banks told AppleInsider , together with Australia merchants and payment processors, they have been working in payments without contact until Apple Pay arose.
The banks say that, to difference of Android or Samsung, Apple blocks the access to them payments NFC and wants to that those users not have another option that use of Apple Pay. They want to negotiate with Apple to offer other portfolios integrated within Apple Pay. Last week, Australia retailers and payment processors lined up with the banks to bargain collectively.
