Modular links strap for Apple Watch, the latest patent from Apple

Apple Watch - Correa de eslabonesWe have an Apple Watch tend not to complain much about functions that offers intelligent Apple clock, but have you read well: not much. As any other device, and more when when we only have an initial review of the same, to Apple clock still missing things to improve to be the perfect smartwatch, adding support for mobile connections without prejudicing their autonomy or a camera to be able to make video calls. According to the latest patent obtained by the Cupertino, all this could be shaped belt modular links.

This week, Apple has been awarded a patent that describes a system of accessories for Apple Watch that differentiates electronic components such as batteries, biometric sensors, solar cells and much more, all in a bracelet or metal strap that, seeing the scheme, would seem much to the belt of links of stainless steel which is available from € 509.

Apple patented a modular Apple Watch strap

Apple Watch - Correa de eslabones

Presented as “link belt modular functional for wearable devices“, the patent describes a method whereby Apple clock could expand its capacity after an initial sale, what would extended the useful life of the device. This patent was presented in March of 2016 and their benefits are clear: them users of the clock of the Apple could “update” our device and add you new components without having that return to disburse all what is worth a Apple Watch full. On the other hand, this patent suggests that Tim Cook and company does not intend to renew your watch so much like the iPhone or the iPad, but that we prefer is that we can keep our Apple Watch for several years (how great it would be…).

In the patent, Apple mentions some of the devices that could be included in the links of this belt modular, as the following

  • Battery.
  • Photovoltaic cells (solar panel).
  • Generators of electricity.
  • Cameras.
  • Physical response devices.
  • Speakers.
  • Screens.
  • Solenoid.
  • Processor.
  • Light sensor.
  • Accelerometer.
  • Speedometer.
  • Compass.
  • Gyroscope.
  • GPS.
  • Thermometer.
  • Hygrometer (humidity sensor).
  • Blood pressure sensor.
  • Sweat sensor.
  • Magnetic field sensor
  • Antenna.
  • Vibrator.
  • Touch sensor.
  • Button.
  • A slipper.
  • Force or pressure sensor.

The system to mount these links would also be similar to the belt of stainless steel that we can now buy at the Apple Store, i.e., it would consist of simple mounting links or easy-on/easy-off. As you might expect, these links may not be used in independent way, but it would have to be constantly connected to an ecosystem. To be connected each other, energy and communications are shared between all the links.

Undoubtedly, the patent is interesting and would allow, for example, to Add a GPS to the original Apple Watch or supplementing other deprivations of Series 2 as the absence of 3 G/LTE chip or a camera for video calls. Would what put you you to your modular link belt?
