While Apple makes fairly modest claims of water resistance for new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, what you suggest is more demanding than a ride on bike in the rain, but this hasn’t stopped people to perform some pretty extreme tests with the new models of iPhone.
They have been published various videos where the new iPhone survive immersion in water, soft drinks and coffee, even threw in 10 meters of water. With this test the surfer known, Kai Lenny, took the 7 iPhone and iPhone 7 Plus and embarked on the waves to test its resistance to water while your favorite extreme sport.
The video begins by performing the test to the 6s iPhone and iPhone Plus 6s, that as expected do not survive for long time, both devices stop working after five minutes since Kai starts to surf.
The iPhone 7, however, is still working perfectly after a total of 30 minutes of surfing. IPhone 7 Plus not pass test as well, after Kai get out of the water becomes aware that the audio is severely affected after the same 30-minute walk.
By the way, surfing is one of a series of activities that Apple specifically discouraged to perform with an iPhone, so it is best that you do not make this sport with your new iPhone.
Officially Apple indicates that the limit of waterproofing is 1 meter of immersion in water for 30 minutes. Remember that the damage of the device by water not is actually covered by the warranty.
“The iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus are resistant to the water, to the powder and to splash and were tested in conditions controlled in laboratory with a rating IP67 low the standard 60529 of IEC.” Splashes, dust and water resistance is not a permanent condition and resistance may decrease as a result of normal use. Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone, refer to the user guide by cleaning and drying instructions. Liquid damage is not covered by warranty”.
