After months of rumors finally Apple unveiled its new range of MacBook Protoday. The company, true to his style, showed the main novelties of equipment, with much emphasis on one of the most notable: the Touch Bar.
This Touch Bar is precisely what had been rumored for some time. It’s a screen OLED touch that it occupies the space formerly occupied by the function keys. This panel OLED works in conjunction with the software and adapts according to the application that you have active at that time to show us quick access to important functions.
For example, in the case of iTunes you can show us the playback, in the case of Photoshop controls options to resize the brush or in the case of Final Cut or iMovie can be used to move forward or backward during playback of a video. The possibilities of the Bar of the new MacBook Pro Touch are very large and everything will be a matter of seeing the acceptance has among developers when integrating it.
Right next to the Touch Bar, where we find the power button on the laptop, the Touch IDis housed. It’s the system of fingerprint recognition of Apple that we already know, and that makes the leap from the iPhone and iPad to Mac. Thanks to him, it will be possible to confirm payments via Apple Pay and we assume that also unlock the computer, although the company has not made references to that possibility.
Dimensions and design
The new MacBook Pro range is up to 17% thinner than previous models. Thus, the 13-inch screen version has 14.9 mm thick, while the version with larger screen reaches 15.5 mm
In terms of weight, the model with the smaller screen added 1.37 Kg, while the 15-inch version is 1.83 kg. Taking into account the power and possibilities of these teams must say that very moderate weight, something that all the users that usually carry your laptop will appreciate.
The Trackpad is much larger than that in the previous generation and of course includes the keyboard with butterfly mechanism we already know thanks to the MacBook.
With regard to finishes, Apple offers two colors different on the new range MacBook Pro: grey space and silver.
Ports, the great missing
As happened in the MacBook, Apple wants to reduce the ports to a minimum and this time he decided to include only type Thunderbolt 3 ports (as well as a 3.5 mm headphone minijack connector).
Thunderbolt 3 ports will be used to connect any type of device, besides for charging the battery of the laptop (for this last can be either port either). This means that to have a USB, HDMI or DisplayPort connection need resort to adapters, something that will not please many.
CPU, graphics and display
The 13 inch model includes processor Intel i5 dual-core series and 8 GB of RAM, while the 15-inch model incorporates quad-core core i7 and 16 GB of RAM chips.
In terms of graphics, the model with the smaller screen carries chips Intel Iris and 15-inch models feature more powerful graphics chipset’s Radeon Pro range 45 x, with which the firm promises graphics up to 130% faster versus the current generation.
The screens are up to a 67% brighter (500 nits in total), with 67% more contrast and can represent 25% more colors than sRGB (chromatic range P3).
Prices and availability
New equipment can already be booked via the Apple website, although shipments will take between 3-4 weeks in Spain still according to to the website of the company. It is also possible to buy non-Touch ID models, which have a deadline of next Monday at the time of writing these lines.
