Always mentioned that Macs are safer, it makes them not missing any application to avoid viruses, that if are safer… nothing further from the truth. Windows has always been the operating system installed and most used around the world while OS X was just used by a minority, that is why hackers always have focused their efforts in prioritizing their attacks on Windows, not OS X.
But for a while now, it seems that Macs are being the objective of foreign friends, and every few months is a new malware, virus or Trojan that attacks the Mac. It is clear that every time there are more users who use these computers and hackers want to expand its field of action also attacking these users.
BitDefender has detected a new malware that affects the majority of Mac OS X operating system and that has been baptized with the name Backdoor.MAC.Elanor. The only way to reach our computers is through applications that have not passed the filters of the Mac App Store, i.e., they have not been verified by the company.
The application which is expanding this malware is EasyDoc Converter, an application which in theory allows us to convert files to a different format, a conversion that never gets to perform, but once you’ve installed it already you are infected. This application, as well as many others that promise many things to not actually do anything, is available for download on various sites, which has led to a rapid expansion and spread in many millions of Mac.
This malware offers a total system control, so that we can block access, transformar your Mac in a network of bots to perform DDoS attacks and create a network of zombie computers that can be controlled according to the use who want to give the hackers.
