As part of its push into mobile games, Nintendo is considering the creation of physical controllers (joysticks) , and other types of hardware for different types of mobile games and applications experiences. Shinya Takahashi, director general of planning and development of Nintendo Entertainment, discussed this possibility at the annual meeting of shareholders of the company.
“Physical controllers for smart device applications are available in the market and it is possible that we can also develop something new by ourselves,” said Takahashi. “I think the Nintendo way of thinking and look to see if the action games are really impossible to play without a physical controller for smart device applications, so can make to create a game of this type and also have a joystick with which to play it without problems”.
In the console and portable games, Nintendo has led the development of unique joysticks that can take advantage of the company with their games first-party. The new joysticks of Nintendo would include a design of Trident in reverse (as it was the control of the Nintendo 64), remote controls with dual-screen portable devices and motion control.
Apple has added support for gaming since 7 iOS devices, expanding its program “Made for iPhone” to include accessories for gaming device. More recently, the company reduced its requirement for games of tvOS supporting remote Siri, allowing game developers to create more complex games for the fourth generation of Apple TV.
Nintendo also reiterated their commitment to create experiences in mobile applications that are not games, as their play style of social life and application Miitomo. The company still plans to launch five games for smartphones in March 2017, with already released Miitomo and Pokemon GO scheduled to be released at the end of this month. Games for smart phones based on Nintendo franchises Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing will arrive at the end of this year.
