All the files that we have on our computers have a name formed by two parts. The first is the name that identifies the file and the second is the extension that tells us that this type of file. The file name is always visible, while the extensions are not shown by default on macOS and other operating systems.
We assume that the reason why the Mac comes configured by default to not show the extension of the files is to avoid confusing the user. Many people are unaware of the meaning of them different extensions of file and not know the difference between a .jpg, .png, .mov, .dmg, etc, etc… Although really know her, or at least know what is an extension of file, is something important and that facilitates much the work with a computer.
Change the settings to show the extensions of the files in Mac
Fortunately it is possible to change this setting on our Mac and Configure macOS to display file extensions. Something that can help us to work faster with our team and to locate in a more agile manner the software that we need to open each file type when there is none assigned to open by default.
To make the macOS Finder display the extensions of the files we must follow the following steps:
1 open a Finder window, click on the Finder menu, and choose Preferences.
2. in the window that opens click on the Advancedoption.
3 setting the show file extensionscheck box.
That’s it, after making that small adjustments in the Finder Preferences we will see all the file extensions that let us work on our computer. A small change in the way in which we envision our files, but which can help us to work more comfortable and safe with our team.
